City in smoke: the consequences of the enemy’s devastating attack on Kyiv

On the night of July 21, Russian occupiers massively attack Kyiv with drones. As a result of the shelling, fires were reported in several districts of the capital.

It should be noted that the attack on Kyiv began at around 23:00 on July 20. Already then, enemy drones were spotted near Kyiv and there were warnings that air defense could be heard.

However, the really loud sounds of explosions in the capital were heard at 01:33. Since then, the enemy has been constantly attacking Ukraine with drones for several hours.

It is now known that the effects of the enemy attack are recorded in at least five districts of the capital – Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Dniprovskyi, Solomianskyi and Obolonskyi.

Darnytskyi district

As of 04:01, the head of the Kyiv City Administration of Emergency Situations Timur Tkachenko informed that a fire was reported on the roof of a high-rise building and a non-residential building in the Darnytskyi district of the capital.

In addition, a fire was reported in a supermarket.

Shevchenkivskyi district

A fire broke out in a residential building in this district. Balconies are burning at another address.

“There is one victim in Shevchenkivskyi, where a fire broke out on the second and third floors of a residential building. He was treated on the spot,” said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Dniprovsky district

According to Tkachenko, a fire broke out in a shopping center and debris fell on the territory of a kindergarten.

“Two more fires in Darnytskyi district. We are clarifying the information about the victims,” said Tkachenko.

Solomensky district

Klitschko and Tkachenko reported that a fire broke out in a warehouse. Emergency services are on their way to the scene.

Obolon district

As of 05:28, the mayor of Kyiv informed that a fire was reported in a cottage complex in Obolon district.

“It is uninhabited. No one was injured,” Klitschko said.

There were also reports of a fire at the Lukyanivska metro station. In particular, Telegram channels published videos with heavy smoke.

The Kyiv City State Administration informed that the Lukyanivska metro station is closed to passengers but is working as a shelter.

“The shelling partially damaged the ground part of the station. There is no fire at the station, the underground premises are not damaged. The station will temporarily be closed for entry and exit,” the statement said.

They added that the resumption of work will be announced later.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on his social media that there were calls for medical personnel to Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi districts.

Tkachenko wrote that there was information about one person killed in the Russian attack, and another person was injured.
