The frosts have receded, but not gone away: what to expect from the weather after the weekend

After a period of severe frosts, Ukraine will enjoy a brief respite with milder weather, but forecasters are already warning of another cold snap starting this weekend.

According to forecaster Natalka Didenko, the relatively warm conditions will last only a few days, after which the frosts will intensify again, primarily in the north of the country, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

Weather for the weekend of February 7–8: no extreme frosts

No severe cold is expected on Saturday and Sunday, but the weather will remain unstable and wet.

At night:

  • most regions: –3…–8°C;
  • west: 0… –4°C;
  • south: around 0°C.

During the day:

  • most of the country: 0… –4°C;
  • western regions: around 0°C;
  • South: 2…5°C;
  • Crimea: up to 6–10°C.

Precipitation and difficult road conditions

Wet snow and rain are forecast for both days of the weekend, which will lead to:

  • thawing of ice;
  • the formation of slush on roads and sidewalks;
  • increased risk for drivers and pedestrians.

Forecasters advise being especially careful when traveling.

When and where will the new cold snap come from?

Already on Sunday, February 8, colder air will begin to flow in from the north:

  • in the northern regions, the temperature will drop to –6…–9°C in the evening.

The most noticeable cold snap is expected on February 9–11, when a new wave of frost will hit Ukraine.

Fog and reduced visibility

Warming combined with wet weather creates conditions for fog, especially:

  • on Saturday;
  • with visibility of 300–500 meters or less.

This also applies to the capital.

Weather in Kyiv

Fog and wet snow are forecast for Kyiv over the weekend.

  • Tonight: –5…–7°C;
  • Saturday during the day: –2…–4°C;
  • Sunday, February 8: –4…–7°C throughout the day;
  • Sunday evening — down to –9°C.

When will it warm up again?

According to weather forecasters, the new cold snap will not last long.
Warming is expected as early as February 12, when the cold will gradually recede.
