Moscow wants to divide Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant electricity between Ukraine and Russia, according to media reports

Moscow insists that Ukraine and Russia should share the electricity produced by the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Politico.

Unnamed US officials told the publication that this week, a significant part of the negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the US in Abu Dhabi focused on economic issues. They also focused on who would control the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

It is noted that no agreement was reached. However, Moscow’s desire is for Ukraine and Russia to share the electricity production from this plant, which is the largest in Europe.

“Both sides are beginning to imagine what they can get from peace, such as a prosperity plan for Ukraine and some opportunities for Russia to conclude business deals with the United States,” one of the officials said.

The situation at the ZNPP

As a reminder, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under Russian occupation since March 2022. During this time, Russia has repeatedly attempted to legitimize its control over the facility, violating international law.

The latest actions of Rostekhnadzor are seen as another manifestation of nuclear blackmail, which increases threats to the security of the region and the whole world.

At the same time, as part of its peace initiatives, the US is proposing a format for joint management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that such an approach is unfair.
