In the Zhytomyr region, a court has taken into custody a 43-year-old resident of the village of Kotivka in the Radomyshl community who killed his 42-year-old wife, nine-year-old daughter, dog, cats, and tried to kill his 62-year-old neighbor. This was reported by the press service of the Zhytomyr Oblast Police, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to police, the tragedy occurred on October 4 around noon. A quarrel arose between the spouses, during which the drunken man stabbed his wife with a knife, then stabbed his daughter multiple times with a stabbing object.

When the neighbor tried to settle the quarrel, the man stabbed her and killed his two cats and a dog. The woman was hospitalized. The victim is currently under medical supervision after surgery.

The animals died from their injuries.

The police promptly detained the suspect. The next day, he was notified of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including the intentional murder of two people, including a young child (Article 115(2)(1), 2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), completed attempted murder committed by a person who had previously committed intentional murder (Article 15(2), paragraph 13(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and cruelty to animals (Article 299(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to law enforcement, on October 6, the court imposed on the man a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail.

He faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment for the crime.

Law enforcement officers found that the couple had five children, three of whom lived separately. Two younger daughters stayed with their parents. On the day of the tragedy, the 11-year-old child was at a friend’s house in the neighborhood and was not injured.

It is worth noting that in August 2025, the husband and wife were deprived of their parental rights by a court decision, but as of October 4, the children had not yet been removed from the family. Because of this, the police launched an additional investigation into possible negligence (part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) on the part of the guardianship and custody authorities.
