The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has initiated the creation of a unified DNA database of relatives of missing children who were deported or forcibly transferred to Russia. This was announced by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko in his Telegram, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to him, this database will become an effective tool for establishing family ties even years later – regardless of the change of the child’s name or documents, the genetic code remains unchanged.
As part of the all-Ukrainian campaign “Bringing Ukrainian Children Home”, the state
- advises relatives of missing children through representatives of the Commissioner for Missing Persons;
- receives citizens in specialized centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in all regions;
- urges relatives to provide DNA material to give a chance for identification and return of children home.
Klymenko urged people to inform the police if they have information about the forced removal of children to the occupied territories or to Russia. He also emphasized that each appeal is a step towards the return of children and the restoration of justice.
Information on how to act in case of a missing child and contacts are available on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The campaign is being implemented in cooperation with the Commissioner for Missing Persons, the National Police, the President’s initiative Bring Kids Back UA and the International Commission on Missing Persons.
