“We will not be a colony”: Caracas reacts harshly to Trump’s words about “running Venezuela”

Vice President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez said that her country will never become a colony of any state. She also called on the United States to return President Nicolas Maduro.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Sky News.

In a televised address, Rodriguez said that the United States had committed an “act of aggression” against the country under false pretenses.

“We demand the immediate release of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores. The only president of Venezuela is Nicolas Maduro. The top leadership of the Venezuelan state is located here: the highest military command, the highest state authorities, and the leadership of the Council of Vice Presidents. All political centers of national power in Venezuela are united. The people are on the streets of Venezuela,” she said.

The Vice President noted that Venezuela is open to respectful relations with the Trump administration, but only within the framework of international and Venezuelan law. According to her, the country will not be a colony (earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the US would govern Venezuela).

Rodriguez also said that the government would protect the country’s natural resources, which belong to the people. In this way, she commented on the words of Trump, who made a number of statements during the briefing, accusing Venezuela of taking all the American oil (previously, there were American companies in Venezuela).

It should be noted that before his speech, Rodriguez Trump said in an interview that US troops would not be deployed in Venezuela until the vice president of the ousted Maduro regime “does what we want.”

As a reminder, on January 3, the United States launched a series of strikes on the Venezuelan capital, Caracas. A number of military and other facilities were hit.

A little later, Trump confirmed the large-scale operation on his social media, announcing its successful completion. He also said that the Venezuelan president and his wife had been detained and taken out of the country.
