Peace by the end of the year: Vitkoff to meet with Zelensky and European leaders

13 December 2025 08:20

US Special Representative Steve Witkoff will meet with European leaders and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Berlin. The event is of key importance as the White House seeks to achieve peace in Ukraine.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to The Wall Street Journal.

According to sources, the decision to send Vitkoff, who led negotiations with Ukraine and Russia on the American peace plan, indicates that the United States is stepping up its efforts to reduce differences between Kyiv and Washington. On Sunday and Monday, he will also hold separate meetings with representatives of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

The Berlin meeting is expected to be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as well as specialized advisors on Ukraine.

The White House recently stated that US President Donald Trump would only agree to send an official representative if there is “sufficient progress” in the peace talks. White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt noted that Trump is “tired of meetings for the sake of meetings.”

Initially, European leaders had hoped to organize a face-to-face meeting with Trump in Europe to discuss their proposed changes to the American peace plan.
