Ukraine peace deal could be done “by the end of the week” – Politico

The US peace plan for Ukraine could be agreed upon by all stakeholders by the end of November or even “this week,” a senior White House official told Politico, noting that the administration is on the “verge of a major breakthrough,” "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The news comes after Axios reported that President Donald Trump’s team is secretly working with Russia on a new plan to end the war in Ukraine. The 28-point plan, according to the publication’s interlocutors, includes four areas: peace in Ukraine, security guarantees, security in Europe, and future US relations with Russia and Ukraine.
However, neither Kyiv nor the US allies in Europe were directly involved in the drafting of the new “framework” peace agreement, the newspaper notes. A US official said that the White House is optimistic and is going to present its plan to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a “fait accompli.”
“What we’re going to present [to Ukraine] is reasonable,” a senior White House official said.
Trump’s team believes that Zelenskyy, who is under pressure both on the battlefield and on the domestic front amid a corruption scandal, will be forced to accept what he is offered.
“We don’t really care about the [opinion] of the Europeans. The main thing is that [the peace agreement] is approved by Ukraine,” the source said.
Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff is in charge of developing the peace plan on the American side. Russia is represented in the negotiations on a new peace agreement by the Russian dictator’s special representative, Kirill Dmitriev.
The latter confirmed the work on the agreement, praising its chances of success.
“We feel that the Russian position is really being heard,” Dmitriev said the day before.
The main idea of the plan is to ensure strong security in Europe, not just in Ukraine, said Vladimir Putin’s spokesman.
However, there is still no idea about the details of the plan for Ukraine related to Russia’s occupation of large swaths of Ukrainian territory, the abduction of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children, and security guarantees for Ukraine.
On Tuesday, Zelenskyy said he would be in Turkey on November 19 to prepare for the “intensification” of peace talks. According to Reuters sources, Vitkoff will also arrive there. Also, according to The Wall Street Journal and Politico, Trump sent a delegation led by Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll to Kyiv to assess the situation and resume peace talks.
