Peace agreement with Russia only through a referendum: what Zelensky said

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that any peace agreement with Russia must be approved by the Ukrainian people. According to him, if a real compromise is reached, a nationwide referendum could take place within a few months. The head of state made this statement in an interview with the American publication The Atlantic, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The referendum could be a key element of the peace process
Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the Ukrainian authorities do not rule out holding a referendum on possible agreements to end the war. The president stressed that the final decision must belong to the citizens of Ukraine.
“A referendum would have enormous power in terms of guaranteeing Ukraine’s security, because I am confident that the whole world would recognize the referendum if it were conducted properly,” Zelensky said.
According to the president, it is the democratic expression of the will of the people that can ensure the legitimacy of any agreements and strengthen international support for Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky also commented on the possibility of holding a referendum simultaneously with the presidential elections. In his opinion, this could increase voter turnout and provide additional legitimacy to the process.
