Customs officers will be checked for integrity: the Government approved the mechanism

The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution defining the mechanism for conducting integrity checks and monitoring the lifestyle of customs officials. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Finance, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

What does the government resolution provide for?

The resolution developed by the Ministry of Finance sets out clear and objective rules that will be used to conduct

  • checking the integrity of customs officers;
  • monitoring of their lifestyle;
  • annual submission of integrity declarations.

Who will be tested and when?

According to the new rules:

  • all customs officials must undergo an integrity check every three years;
  • the inspection is carried out ahead of schedule if signals of possible corruption violations are received from the authorities or law enforcement agencies.

The inspection is carried out by a special unit for the prevention and detection of corruption within the customs authorities. If signs of dishonesty are found, the materials are sent to the authorized anti-corruption body. This is a mandatory ground for initiating disciplinary proceedings.

Declaration of integrity – a new mandatory requirement

In addition to the inspection, all customs officials must submit an integrity declaration by April 1 each year. It must also be submitted within 10 business days after being appointed to the position.

Why is this necessary?

The adopted resolution is a step towards the formation of a transparent, accountable and honest customs service that meets modern requirements and expectations of society.
