Solar panels are being installed on the roof of the Central Department Store in Kyiv. And not only there

The roof of the Central Department Store in Kyiv’s Khreshchatyk Street is being covered with 250 solar panels that will become part of the building’s unified energy independence system. This was announced by SCM’s Communications Director Natalia Yemchenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
YASNO company is helping TSUM to realize this good deed.
“These panels will produce 120 kW. This is certainly not 100% of the need, but it will cover 10 percent. Energy autonomy as it is,” said Natalia Yemchenko.

In fact, recently, the roofs of many buildings in the capital have been “decorated” with solar panels.
A few examples of energy autonomy
An entire solar power plant with a storage system appeared on the roof of the Scientific and Technical Library of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It will provide the building with autonomous power. The capacity of the solar power plant is 14.8 kW, and the total energy storage capacity is 19.2 kWh.

Recently, one of the high-rise buildings in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv was the first to receive the Energy Sustainable Building of Kyiv award. With the help of the city, the residents installed a solar power plant and inverters.
In total, more than 10 high-rise buildings have already installed solar power plants and their number is growing. And residents of more than 300 houses have completed the necessary work and installed mini-power plants, generators, storage devices and are now independent of power outages. More and more buildings, regardless of the form of management, are taking advantage of city programs to increase energy resilience.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, there are 4 programs for homeowner communities in Kyiv. More than 2,500 projects have already been implemented. These include energy-efficient works, purchase of backup power sources, and overhauls in buildings.

It is worth recalling that this summer, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine decided to make it mandatory to install solar panels with energy storage systems on all public buildings. The installation period is until the end of 2025. There is still time for various institutions and organizations to increase their energy resilience.
