About a thousand people are trapped on the eastern slope of Mount Everest due to heavy snowfall. This was reported by the local newspaper Sanxiang Dushibao, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the newspaper, the blizzard began on Saturday, October 4. As a result, the visibility decreased to less than one meter, and snow fell on key sections of the route. Snow also covered the tents of tourists.
“According to incomplete statistics, about a thousand people could have been trapped along the entire route. Some managed to descend on their own, but most needed help,” the newspaper said.
Rescue teams and local residents have already headed to the slope to provide assistance. However, as the journalists noted, the rescue operation was complicated by the wind.
