There are not enough doctors at the front: Syrsky names problems in military medicine

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine held a special meeting dedicated to critical issues of military medicine. According to him, in today’s war, the issue of effective medical care is becoming a matter of life and death, and the medical service needs immediate reinforcement at all levels – from evacuation of the wounded to the personnel reserve. Syrsky wrote about this on his Facebook page, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to Syrsky, it is primarily about medical evacuation from the front line. He suggests using unmanned systems for this purpose, among other things, in the context of modern warfare.
“Among the top priorities is to improve the state of field medicine, including medical evacuation from the front line. In the conditions of modern warfare, we must use unmanned systems for this purpose,” the Commander-in-Chief said in his address.
The main emphases of the meeting:
Medical evacuation: Currently, one of the most critical areas is the evacuation of the wounded from the combat zone. It is proposed to use drones and modern technologies to transport the wounded more widely.
Lack of combat medics: The junior medical staff, especially combat medics, needs to be significantly supplemented. According to the Commander-in-Chief, since May, 2% of graduates of basic military training have been sent to study in this specialty. But this is not enough.
“To solve this personnel problem, according to my order, starting from May, 2% of the graduates of the Basic Combat Training will be allocated for training as combat medics. However, this is not enough, so we are looking for effective solutions and considering proposals from the commanders of medical units and institutions to resolve this issue,” he emphasized.

Stabilization centers: Despite the sufficient level of overall staffing of medical services, stabilization centers often lack doctors, which critically affects the effectiveness of care.
Medical battalions: The state of formation of medical battalions within army corps was analyzed, as well as the activities of the Department for Coordination of Military Medicine and Training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Commander-in-Chief also called on military medics to engage in a frank dialog:
“I called on military medics to have a frank conversation about existing problems and needs. The work on developing the capabilities of medical services in the troops should be intensified,” he emphasized.
