The special forces group “Sharp Caps” of the separate special forces detachment “Omega” reported the death of a combat medic Marina Vorontsova, known by the call sign Lagertha.

She was killed during a combat mission near Pokrovsk, one of the most tense sections of the frontline, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

Maryna Vorontsova joined the Ukrainian defense back in 2014. At first, she volunteered and helped with military technical support. Later, she became a volunteer in the special purpose combat group “Sharp Caps” of the Omega detachment of the National Guard of Ukraine.

The unit called her “a pearl and a mascot”. During her year of service on the front line, she participated in numerous combat missions and was awarded the group’s combat chevron.

What her comrades say

The soldiers’ message notes that it is “impossible to describe her journey in one post” and emphasizes that Maryna’s story is one that requires a separate book. The military emphasize that her death was a heavy loss for the entire unit.

“Now she has become a guardian angel for each of us,” the statement reads.

The Pokrovsk area in Donetsk region remains one of the key areas where Ukrainian troops are holding the line amid intense fighting. In recent months, this area has recorded some of the highest rates of Russian assaults and losses.

The military say that Maryna’s memory will remain “forever on the shield” and her service will serve as an example for other medics and volunteers who continue to work on the front line.
