Head of the Border Guard Service’s Military Medical Commission detained for bribery – SBI

The State Bureau of Investigation has exposed a colonel of the medical service, head of the military medical commission of one of the medical institutions of the State Border Guard Service, for bribery, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the official organized a corruption scheme by offering illegal medical reports to servicemen who were undergoing military medical examinations. In exchange for money, border guards could be issued a certificate of limited fitness for service, a referral for treatment or a medical leave – even without medical grounds.
The cost of the “services” varied depending on the state of health and the complexity of the decision, ranging from several thousand hryvnias to several thousand dollars.
Law enforcement detained the official while he was receiving another bribe. During the searches, they seized documents confirming the illegal activities of the commission.
The colonel was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – obtaining an unlawful benefit by an official. He faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Earlier, in April 2025, law enforcement officers detained the head of the Military Qualification Commission at the city’s territorial center for recruitment and social support (TQC) and his accomplice in Chernivtsi . They are suspected of taking bribes for issuing fake medical certificates to evade mobilization. The price of such “services” ranged from 5 to 10 thousand US dollars. During the searches, medical documents of persons liable for military service were seized from the head of the Military Qualification Commission, the legality of which is being checked.
In January 2025, the head of the MEC of the Shevchenkivskyi District MCC and JV was detained in Lviv on suspicion of receiving a bribe of USD 2 thousand for issuing a fictitious diagnosis of unfitness for service. During the searches, more than 16 thousand dollars, 7 thousand hryvnias, a cell phone, a seal, a bank card and other material evidence were seized from him.
