Ukraine has received €6 million in grant aid from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. This brings Australia’s total contribution to the Fund to €24.5 million.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The funds will be used to finance the priority needs of the energy sector, taking into account the current challenges of energy security,” said Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Previous contributions from Australia have already been used to purchase transformers of various capacities, complete transformer substations, autotransformers, microprocessor relay protection terminals, and other energy equipment to ensure the reliability of transmission and distribution networks and to restore and strengthen energy infrastructure.
The situation in the power system
Currently, the difficult situation with electricity supply persists not only in Kyiv, but also in a number of other regions, where significant damage to the power grid has forced the authorities to impose restrictions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Russia had carried out large-scale strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector, using a large number of missiles and drones, which caused serious damage and will require lengthy restoration.
At the same time, experts predict that the energy system could stabilize as early as April, when rising temperatures and the end of the heating season will reduce the load on the grid.
