24 December 09:14

On the night of December 24, an explosion occurred in southern Moscow, injuring two traffic police officers, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia reported, "Komersant Ukrainian" citing Russian propaganda media.

“Investigators and forensic experts of the Moscow Investigative Committee, together with operational services, are examining the scene and studying video surveillance footage,” the agency said. A criminal case has been opened over the incident under the articles of attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer and illegal trafficking in explosive devices.

According to media reports, the explosion occurred near the police station on Yeletska Street in Orikhovo-Borysove. Two injured traffic police officers were immediately hospitalized. Local residents also saw a man lying next to the car with leg injuries.

Media sources in law enforcement agencies reported that the policemen died of their injuries. According to an interlocutor of the Cheka-OGPU in one of the law enforcement agencies, around midnight, the traffic police officers were tasked with detaining a suspicious man and bringing him to the police station. They last contacted their commander when they arrived at the police station and encountered another suspicious person in the parking lot. According to media reports, the unknown person threw an improvised explosive device into the car and fled.

A local resident said that a few minutes before the incident, he had parked his car near the explosion site. He saw a police Skoda, as well as a suspicious man wearing a hood and a medical mask looking into the parked cars. However, the resident of Orikhovo-Borysove did not see the explosion itself, as he was already on his way up to his home at the time. The IC later confirmed the deaths of two policemen, as well as a man who was with them at the time of the explosion.

Two days earlier, on December 22, the car of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov exploded near the police station in Orikhovo-Borysove. The high-ranking military officer was in the car at the time and died from his injuries. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over the incident on the grounds of crimes under Article 105(2)(e) of the Russian Criminal Code and Article 222.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (murder committed in a generally dangerous manner; illegal trafficking in explosives).
