NABU returns millions of euros to state budget for first time in cooperation with foreign prosecutor’s office, says Kryvonos

Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Semen Kryvonos reported that thanks to cooperation with the prosecutor’s offices of other countries, in particular France, it was possible for the first time to return to the state budget about €4 million that had been illegally withdrawn from Ukraine. He noted this during a briefing entitled “Results of the NABU and SAP in the second half of 2025,” responding to questions from media representatives, according to Komersant Ukrainian.
According to Kryvonos, the support of the European Union plays an important role in the work of NABU and SAP: expert assistance, equipment, training, and the European Anti-Corruption Initiative.
“The support of the European Union is important to us. Our European partners provide us with a great deal of assistance, including expert assistance. We also have the European Anti-Corruption Initiative, a special project run in Ukraine by the European Union. They help us by purchasing the necessary equipment and conducting training. They provide us with technical support and assistance,” he said.
Kryvonos also noted that the memoranda signed with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and other EU law enforcement agencies allow for the creation of joint investigation teams and the achievement of real results.
“…For example, France. Thanks to cooperation with the French prosecutor’s office, we managed to recover about €4 million that had been embezzled as a result of a scheme at the Polygraph Combine of Ukraine. This is the first time that such money has been returned to the budget. We continue to expect that our partners will, at our request, extradite our suspects who are hiding in European Union countries and return the money,” he explained.
The NABU director added that despite pressure and illegal actions against NABU employees, last year was a successful one for anti-corruption agencies.
