The conscription age in Ukraine should be between 20 and 50. This proposal was made by mP and SBU colonel Roman Kostenko, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, a new law that would approve the specified conscription age would improve the processes of mobilisation to the Armed Forces.

“I’ve been in the army since I was 17, and I’ll say this: we’re not talking about 18, but I think we should have a conscription age of 20 to 50. Anyone after that can be mobilised at will, but not in combat units,” Kostenko said.

He added that if Ukraine wants to provide combat units with adequate supplies, so that people are healthy and able to perform combat missions, the age range should be 20-50.

Roman Kostenko also said that the adopted law on mobilisation has certain drawbacks, such as the prevalence of quantity over quality.

“There are, of course, some kinks at the local level of the CCCs. First, we need to pay attention to the quality of the personnel. It often happens here that the DCCs are chasing numbers: you were told to have 10 per day, so you went, caught them and sent them to the training centre. And as a result, one is a drug addict, one is sick, one has some other problems. These people come to the training centre, and then people from military units come and simply do not take them,” Kostenko said.
