Consequences of the attack on the power grid: part of Kyiv region left without gas

On the night of September 8, Russian troops carried out another massive shelling of Ukrainian energy infrastructure. As a result, thermal generation facilities and the gas network in the Kyiv region were damaged, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Damage to energy facilities
According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, one of the thermal generation facilities in the Kyiv region came under fire. The Ministry emphasizes that the purpose of the attack is obvious – to cause maximum hardship to the civilian population, leaving Ukrainian homes, hospitals, kindergartens and schools without electricity and heat.
The Energy Ministry emphasized that Russian troops are deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure:
“Generation facilities, electricity transmission and distribution systems, gas infrastructure are not military targets. The enemy clearly understands that it is hitting critical CIVIL infrastructure.”

Implications for gas supply
Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, reported serious damage to the gas network in Obukhiv district. As a result of the enemy attack, eight settlements in the district will be without gas supply on September 8 and 9.
Residents of the following settlements will be left without gas:
- Kozyn;
- Zhukivtsi
- Ukrainka;
- Plyty;
- Veremia;
- Khalep’ya;
- Trypillia;
- Shcherbanivka.
In total, gas supply will be disconnected for 8093 customers. According to the head of the regional gas distribution company, the service will be restored gradually.
Elimination of the consequences
Rescuers and power engineers are currently working to eliminate the consequences of the shelling. The Ministry of Energy says it is doing everything possible to stabilize the situation as soon as possible.
The Ministry promises to inform about any changes in the power supply in due course. Citizens are urged to follow the official announcements.
