The largest gas plant in Russia stopped receiving raw materials via UAVs

The Orenburg gas processing plant has stopped receiving raw gas from the Karachaganak field in the West Kazakhstan region after a Ukrainian drone attack, the Kazakh Energy Ministry said on Sunday, October 19, [Komersant] reports.
“According to Gazprom PJSC, on October 19, 2025, an emergency situation occurred at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant as a result of a UAV attack, and therefore the company temporarily stopped receiving raw gas from the Karachaganak field,” the Energy Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian side did not provide information on the nature of the damage and the timing of the restoration, the Kazakh agency added. Gazprom did not comment on the message of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
Ukrainian armed forces strike at a gas plant in the Orenburg region
Early in the morning of October 19, the governor of the Orenburg region, Yevgeny Solntsev, said that the infrastructure of the gas plant was “partially damaged” due to the attack by Ukrainian UAVs. “As a result of the UAV strike, one of the workshops started to catch fire,” the head of the region wrote.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the attack on the enterprise in the Orenburg region. “Explosions and a large-scale fire were recorded on the territory of the plant. According to preliminary information, one of the gas processing and purification units was hit,” the Ukrainian military said. The General Staff emphasized that the strike was carried out as part of “a set of measures to hit critical enterprises involved in meeting the needs of the Russian armed forces.”
The Orenburg Gas Processing Plant is the world’s largest gas chemical complex.
