2 February 04:46

At least 38 people have died in Poland due to freezing temperatures and hypothermia, according to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Wiesław Szczepański. He was quoted by Wiadomości, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

The Ministry of Internal Affairs specified that the last two cases occurred within 24 hours. In addition, there is information about two more people in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Province in the north of the republic. If confirmed, the number of frost victims will reach 40.

Szczepański noted that the coldest night is yet to come. On the night of February 2, the temperature in the city of Suwałki may drop to -29°C, but it will feel like -36…-38°C.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration is sounding the alarm,” the article says.

Last week, at least 30 people died in the US as a result of a powerful winter storm that brought severe frosts, snow, and freezing rain. On Monday, January 27, more than half a meter of precipitation fell across an area stretching from Arkansas to New England, covering approximately 2,100 km. This led to flight cancellations, traffic stoppages, and mass school closures. Temperatures dropped to -31°C.
