The most popular and unusual names Ukrainians gave to children in the first half of 2025 – Ministry of Justice

In the first half of 2025, Ukrainians most often named their newborns Alexander, Mark, Timothy, Matthew, Sofia, Emilia, Eva, and Milan. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice with reference to data from territorial civil registration authorities, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The most popular names for boys:
Alexander, Mark, Timothy, Matthew, Maxim, Artem, Bogdan, Damir, Daniel, Dmitry, Makar.

The most popular names for girls:
Sofia, Emilia, Eva, Milana, Solomia, Victoria, Polina, Anna, Maria, Veronika.

Unusual names chosen by parents:

Among the boys – ancient and Slavic: Arey, Aeneas, Askold, Zoreslav, Radomir, as well as names inspired by pop culture: Karpo, Lavrin, Cosmos, Lucifer, Oscar.

Among the girls, there are rare and exotic ones: Alisha, Assol, Valkyrie, Lola, Luceria, Aurora, Jasmine, Leah-Aileen, Eden Rose, Munachimso Ive.

The Ministry of Justice also reminded that during the full-scale war, Ukrainians began to choose names related to defense and resilience. Thus, Jan-Myroliub, Javelina, and Arthur-Bayraktar were registered earlier.
