The use of the image of Archangel Michael for commemorative moments has already become traditional, as Ukrainians consider him to be the patron saint of the victors who fight for a just cause. This was announced by the NBU when announcing the release of a new commemorative coin, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The National Bank also reminded that the image of this saint is present in the attributes of Ukrainian troops and symbolizes the fight against evil. That is why coins dedicated to Archangel Michael are very popular among numismatics connoisseurs from year to year.
The coin itself has a face value of 10 hryvnias and is made of 999 silver. The mintage is up to 10,000 pieces
The obverse features a stylized laurel wreath, symbolizing glory and victory, against the background of the 2014 Camouflage Design, also known by the unofficial names Pixel and Ukrainian Pixel.

The reverse of the coin depicts the Archangel Michael on a mirror background; to the right and left are stylized silhouettes of soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, helicopters and anti-tank hedgehogs, which compositional emphasize the struggle for independence. Around the circle is the inscription: …For us, both the souls of the righteous and the power of the Archangel Michael (lines from Taras Shevchenko’s poem “Haidamaky”).
It is reported that the commemorative coins will be sold in the online store during January as they are shipped by the NBU Banknote and Mint.
In December, the NBU issued five commemorative coins: “Digital State”, “Barrier-Free”, “New Year’s Toy”, “Neither Bullet nor Saber!”, and “Archangel Michael”. Over the course of the year, numismatists could add three dozen commemorative coins issued by the NBU to their collections.
In May this year, the NBU changed the distribution of commemorative coins and souvenirs between existing sales channels and expanded the list of distributing banks to increase transparency of numismatic products sales and better meet customer demand.
From now on, 60% of the total volume of numismatic products is sold through the NBU’s online store (previously, it was 50%). The share of numismatic products sold through official distributor banks is reduced to 30% (previously 40%). The remaining 10% of the total volume of numismatic products, as before, remains to meet the NBU’s representational needs.
