Not the Web, but not bad either: details of the hacker attack on Aeroflot
28 July 14:00
The Silent Crow hacker group, together with the Belarusian Cyber Partisans, reported the complete destruction of the internal IT infrastructure of the Russian airline Aeroflot. According to them, the operation lasted a year and caused “strategic” damage, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Together with our colleagues from Cyberpartisans BY, we declare the successful conduct of a long and large-scale operation, which completely compromised and destroyed the internal IT infrastructure of Aeroflot – Russian Airlines,”
– Silent Crow reported.
According to the hackers, they had been inside the airline’s corporate network for a year, gradually expanding access to the most critical systems. The attackers claim to have gained control of all key corporate systems, including CREW, Sabre, SharePoint, Exchange, and others.
Scale of the attack
The group reported gaining access to 122 hypervisors, 43 ZVIRT virtualization installations, and about a hundred server management interfaces. According to them, about 7,000 servers, both physical and virtual, were destroyed.
The hackers also claim to have gained access to the personal computers of employees, including top management, and copied data from the listening servers. According to their information, the total amount of stolen data is 12 TB of databases, 8 TB of files, and 2 TB of corporate mail.

Political message
“For the FSB, NCCCI, RT-Solar and other so-called ‘cyber defenders’ – you are not able to protect even your key infrastructures. For all the employees of the repressive apparatus, your digital security is insignificant, and you yourself have long been under surveillance,”
– the hackers said.
According to the hackers, they will soon begin publishing some of the data they have obtained. They made an ironic remark about the personal data of passengers:
“The personal data of all Russians who have ever flown with Aeroflot have now also gone on a trip – albeit without luggage and one way.”
Damage assessment
“All of these resources are now inaccessible or destroyed, and restoration will require possibly tens of millions of dollars. The damage is strategic,”
– the hackers summarized.
The group concluded its message with the slogans “Glory to Ukraine! Long live Belarus!”, emphasizing the political motivation behind the operation.
The results of the attack
Aeroflot has reportedly canceled dozens of flights, with the most common figure being “over 40”. Only those flights that had been fully processed through all computer databases before the crash were operated.

It is alleged that employees cannot even refuel the plane without electronics.
Many of the company’s employees were sent home, while others are sitting in offices without work. Passengers have even formed lines to get out of airports.
