On the night of 9 September, drones of unknown origin were spotted near Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport. As a result, incoming planes were diverted to other airports, and the airport itself was closed for several hours, reports "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to svt.
Airport security spotted at least four drones of various sizes, but the Civil Aviation Authority did not know anything about them.
Around two in the morning, the decision was made to close the airport, after which at least five planes were forced to land at other airports in the country. At 03:30 local time, Arlanda was able to resume operations.
Police have launched a preliminary investigation.
“We suspect that it was a deliberate act, but I cannot say what the purpose was. Due to the secrecy of the preliminary investigation, we cannot disclose what type of drone was spotted and by whom,”
– said police spokesman Daniel Wikdahl.
The Swedish Armed Forces said they were aware of the incident and were in contact with the airport.
“We are in contact to get a picture of the situation, but we are not on the ground.”
– they said.
Over the past few days, Russian military drones have flown into Latvia and Romania.
Meanwhile, according to the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, Ukrainian drones can hit Russian military targets at a distance of up to 1,800 kilometres.
