“We will reinstate the travel ban for certain citizens and prevent radical Islamic terrorists from entering our country, a decision that has already been upheld by the Supreme Court,” Trump commented on the order.
These restrictions apply to each country separately.
According to the documents, the key reasons for the restrictions include: overstayed visas by citizens of different countries, inclusion of certain states in the list of state sponsors of terrorism, lack of a competent central authority for issuing passports or other civil documents, etc.
Exceptions will be made for persons with dual citizenship, holders of special Afghanistan visas, diplomatic visas, UN or NATO visas, and athletes.
In 2017, during his first presidential term, Donald Trump imposed a similar ban on the entry of citizens of some countries, including Cuba, Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
The ban was canceled by Joe Biden.
This time, North Korea and Syria were neither fully nor partially banned.
