New rules for crossing the border with the EU: will they affect the purchase of railway tickets

10 October 2024 21:23

The new system of checks at EU borders will only apply to border crossing procedures and will not change the process of purchasing railway tickets. This is what was reported by UNIAN citing a comment from the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“Regarding the issue of changes in the transportation process when implementing the Entry/Exit Scheme (EES), it should be noted that no impact on the process of buying tickets for trains of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia is expected, as the implementation of this system has a direct impact on the procedure for crossing the state border,” said representatives of the national carrier.

They added that they are currently studying all possible factors of change for passengers when the system is implemented, as well as assessing the possible impact of the ETIAS system and methods of payment for the planned fee.

New rules for crossing the border with the EU: what is known

In September 2024, it became known that the European Union was changing its border crossing rules.

Starting from 10 November, the European Union will introduce new rules for entering the Schengen area. They will apply to all non-EU citizens, including Ukrainians, regardless of whether they have a visa or not.

The system will automatically record the entry and exit of all foreigners to the Schengen area.

The EES system will record biometric data once and store it for 3 years. At the same time, there will be no more passport stamps, and registration will be done automatically through self-service terminals.

Also, the rules for transporting pets are changing for Ukrainians who want to travel to EU countries with their pets.
