New traffic rules: 80 km/h speed is now allowed only on 4 roads in Kyiv
29 March 07:26
Starting April 1, traffic rules in the capital will change: the number of sections where you can drive at speeds up to 80 km/h will be reduced to four. This decision was made after a detailed analysis of traffic accidents and safety. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Which sections will remain high-speed?
Initially, the Kyiv City Council authorized the increased speed limit on 17 sections. However, after a commission examination, their number was reduced to seven. Additional analysis revealed that three of these sections had fatal accidents in 2024.
Therefore, the final list was reduced to four locations:
- Naberezhne Highway (from Poshtova Square to Naddnipryanske Highway)
- roman Shukhevych Avenue (from the Northern Bridge to Honore de Balzac Street)
- stepan Bandera Avenue (from Yordanska Street to the Northern Bridge);
- naberezhno-Rybalska Street (in one direction only – from Elektrykiv Street to Havanskyi Bridge).
Why was the list of sites shortened?
Experts took into account several factors:
- accident rate
- road infrastructure,
- availability of pedestrian crossings and the risk of dangerous situations.
Particular attention was paid to places where fatal accidents were recorded. That is why the final list was limited to four locations that meet the safety criteria.
How will these changes affect drivers?
The speed limit is aimed at improving the safety of all road users. Drivers should pay close attention to road signs and follow the updated rules to avoid fines and accidents.
