New programs for agricultural producers: vegetable storage facilities and assistance during war and natural disasters

The Ukrainian government has adopted a series of decisions aimed at supporting farmers and ensuring food security during the war. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced two key areas of focus : grant support for the construction of vegetable and fruit storage facilities, and a compensation mechanism for damaged crops in frontline territories, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Grants for vegetable storage facilities

The state will cover up to 30% of the construction costs, up to a maximum of UAH 20 million, subject to co-financing by the recipient.

Support applies to new storage facilities with a capacity of 3,000 tons or more, provided that jobs are created.

For agricultural enterprises in frontline territories, there are preferential terms: up to 50% of the construction cost.

Compensation for damaged crops

The state will compensate farmers for losses of up to UAH 4,700 per hectare, but no more than UAH 2,000 per hectare per farm.

The goal is to support production in areas of active and potential combat operations that have lost crops due to war or weather conditions.

How the lack of modern storage facilities affects product supply

The lack of modern storage facilities seriously affects product supply: about 35% of the vegetable harvest does not reach the consumer.

The total storage deficit exceeds 1.1 million tons, and more than 281,000 tons have been lost due to the war.

New grants and compensation should help farmers maintain production and support the economy of communities, especially those near the front line.
