Ports of Odesa region remain a key element of Ukrainian logistics
The ports of Odesa region remain a key element of Ukrainian logistics, in particular for exporting agricultural products and importing critical goods. Regular attacks on port infrastructure pose additional risks to maritime transportation and the operation of alternative export routes.
The attacks in the first hours of the new year emphasize that the port sector remains one of the priority targets of Russian attacks.
This is not the first attack on the region’s ports in recent days
onDecember 30, Russian drones attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa region, with damage recorded in the ports of Pivdennyi and Chornomorsk.
Since Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Ukrainian ports have been repeatedly targeted, which Kyiv believes is part of a strategy to put pressure on Ukraine’s export potential.
Ukrainian authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and the impact of the attack on port operations. It is expected that a decision will be made soon to restore the damaged facilities and adjust security measures for port infrastructure in the south of the country.
