A new government in Ukraine could be in place as early as this week. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is expected to head the Defense Ministry in the new Cabinet of Ministers.
This was reported to RBC-Ukraine by an informed source, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the source, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already made the decision. First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko is to become the new head of government
Instead, current Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal may head the Defense Ministry in the new Cabinet instead of Rustem Umerov, who is scheduled to become Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States.
In addition, some ministries will be merged in the new government and there will be a general redistribution of powers within the government. In any case, several ministers are expected to lose their positions, the list of which is still being determined.
As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needs new steps in managing the country’s defense sector. According to him, decisions in this regard will be made soon.
Shortly before the president admitted that Umerov could head the Ukrainian embassy in the United States, Zelenskyy also had a conversation with the current ambassador, Oksana Markarova. They discussed her resignation.
