Brigadier General Serhiy Lysak has become the new head of the Odesa City Military Administration. His professional career and life story are described in "Komersant Ukrainian".

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree appointing Serhiy Lysak as the head of the Odesa City Military Administration. Who he is, what experience he has, and what he is remembered for – in the article below.

Service in the Security Service of Ukraine

Serhiy Lysak began his career at the Security Service of Ukraine in the early 2000s, when he held operational positions in the agency’s central office. He specialized in counterintelligence, counterterrorism and hybrid threats. Colleagues recall Lysak as a balanced, balanced and analytical officer who was able to make quick decisions in crisis situations.

During the 2010s, he served in various regional SBU offices in Kyiv, Odesa, and Zhytomyr. Each new appointment added to his experience in investigating and preventing crimes against the state. Lysak himself rarely talks about his past, but in several interviews he admitted that his studies at the SBU Academy became the foundation of his professional resilience.

After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in July 2022, he was appointed head of the SBU’s Dnipro region office. Less than a year later, in March 2023, the president promoted him to the rank of brigadier general.

In February 2023, Lysak became the head of the Dnipro Regional Military Administration, where he worked until his transfer to Odesa.

Experience in the ATO

During the hostilities in eastern Ukraine in 2014-2015, Serhiy Lysak served in the Anti-Terrorist Operation area. He coordinated security measures, countered sabotage groups and enemy reconnaissance attempts.

In 2017, the officer returned to the front, participating in rotations in Donetsk region. His task was to protect critical infrastructure facilities. After returning from the front line, he continued his service in the SSU.

Personal life

Serhii Lysak hardly ever talks about his family, maintaining his privacy – a common practice for law enforcement officials. In his declarations for 2023-2025, he mentions his wife and two children, but without any details about them.

It is known that the family lives in Dnipro. In his infrequent public comments, Lysak says that his family is his “reliable rear” and always supports him in difficult times. According to unofficial information, his wife is engaged in volunteer work, helping with humanitarian initiatives, while his children are at school and remain out of the public eye.

Although Serhiy Lysak avoids publicity, his career demonstrates consistency, discipline and a deep understanding of security issues.
