A law reducing the conscription age has come into force in Ukraine. As a result, the military commissariats will start calling 25-year-olds to clarify their data and undergo a medical examination, the press service of the General Staff reported, according to Komersant ukrainskyi ![]()
According to the updated law on mobilisation, 25-year-olds are subject to deregistration as conscripts and registration as persons liable for military service.
“Improvement of the organisation of military registration of conscripts is carried out in the context of reforming the system of preparing citizens for service and readiness to fulfil their constitutional duty to defend the homeland,” the General Staff said.
Accordingly, the CMCs will summon 25-year-olds to clarify their credentials, undergo a medical examination and complete documents.
In addition, the General Staff noted that after the decree on the demobilisation of conscripts is signed, about 7,000 people will be discharged.
On 2 April, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the law “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine ‘On Military Duty and Military Service'”. The document reduced the conscription age to 25 years.
The law, among other things, increases the number of people liable for military service – people in the reserve to man the Armed Forces and other military formations for a special period.
