2026 Olympics: Okipnyuk fails to reach the super final in ski acrobatics

20 February 22:07

The first men’s ski acrobatics final took place at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Twelve athletes competed for medals, including Ukrainian Oleksandr Okipniuk. This was reported by champion , as relayed by "Komersant Ukrainian".

In his first attempt, Okipnyuk performed a jump with a difficulty coefficient of 5 and received 101.00 points. However, a less than confident landing prevented him from scoring higher.

In his second attempt, the Ukrainian tried to make the element more difficult in an attempt to improve his score, but fell during the landing. As a result, he remained with his previous score and took 10th place out of 12, failing to make it to the super final.

Who won the final

The victory went to Swiss athlete Noah Roth with 131.56 points. His compatriot Pirmin Werner came second (127.50).

The bronze medal went to China’s Qi Guangpu with 121.68 points. Three other Chinese athletes also finished in the top six, highlighting the depth of their team in this discipline.

An unsuccessful day for Ukraine

Three other Ukrainian freestyle skiers failed to make it to the final. The team’s main medal hope, Dmytro Kotovskyi, landed unsuccessfully twice in the qualifying round and failed to make it into the top 12.

Thus, Ukraine ended the men’s ski acrobatics tournament without a chance to compete for medals.

Comparison with Beijing

At the previous Games — the 2022 Winter Olympics — it was ski acrobatics that brought Ukraine its only medal. Oleksandr Abramenko won silver at that time.

The Olympic champion in Beijing was Qi Guangpu, who once again climbed onto the podium, confirming his consistent results at the highest level.

Ski acrobatics traditionally remains one of the strongest winter sports for Ukraine. However, in 2026, the men’s team failed to repeat the medal success of Beijing.
