UN extends payments to Ukrainian pensioners: who will receive additional payments
24 June 2024 11:37
The United Nations World Food Programme in Ukraine has extended the term of the project to provide additional payments to pensioners living in the territories of active or possible hostilities. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Social Policy.
These payments will be continued by the WFP until December 2024 inclusive (in the future, the issue of continuing payments will be decided by donors depending on available funding).
“We understand that it is not easy to live on a small pension, especially in areas close to the war zone, and that additional assistance is desperately needed. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are pleased to continue our financial support to pensioners until the end of the year,”
– said Marianne Ward, WFP Acting Country Director in Ukraine.
The programme is currently funded by WFP with contributions from Germany, Norway, Finland, the European Union and private donors.
Who can receive assistance from the UN
Additional cash assistance is provided to pensioners who receive a pension of less than UAH 3,250 and live in the areas of active or possible hostilities and have not received additional cash payments from international organisations and/or accommodation assistance for internally displaced persons after 1 March 2023.
No special application for additional payments is required. WFP sends funds to pensioners based on information already available in the Pension Fund’s databases.
Payments are made either to a bank card or through Ukrposhta offices (for pensioners receiving their pensions through Ukrposhta).
