Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has explained why he did not sign a joint statement by EU leaders in support of Ukraine before US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Putin.
He wrote about this in the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“Just four days before the historic meeting between President Trump and leader Putin, the European Council has decided to issue a statement on behalf of all EU heads of state and government. Before the liberal mainstream chorus starts their new rendition of their favorite tune, Putin’s Puppet, I have decided to explain why I could not support this statement on behalf of Hungary,” Orban said.

The statement attempted to “set the conditions for a meeting to which EU leaders were not invited,” he added.

Secondly, he said, the fact that the EU stayed away is already sad enough.

“The only thing that can make the situation worse is if we start giving instructions from the bench,” Orban said.

In his opinion, the only reasonable step for EU leaders is to initiate an EU-Russia summit, following the example of the US-Russia meeting.
