The international song contest Eurovision in Basel, Switzerland, will be held under new rules. This was reported by Eurovision Fun, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
During the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, which will be held this year in the Swiss city of Basel, each participant will have a specially designated space where they can retire and relax without cameras.
The next innovation concerns apoliticality. The organisers of the competition will introduce a code of conduct for participants that requires political neutrality while performing on stage. According to Walden, this is necessary to ensure that all contestants feel safe and that there are no conflicts between delegations.
Contest director Bakel Walden stressed the need to remain as neutral as possible on political issues, as Eurovision “cannot solve global conflicts and wars”.
The decision came after this year’s contest in Malmö was overshadowed by protests over the war in Gaza and calls for a boycott of Israel.
In addition, there was a scandal with the participant from the Netherlands, Joost Klein. The musician got into a fight with journalists on his way to the green room. The contestant asked them not to film him, but they ignored his request, and he waved his hand. As a result, Klein was disqualified.
