Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of the Kyiv School of Economics and former Minister of Economy, is convinced that artificial intelligence is not an enemy but a savior of education. On his Facebook page, he said that AI will help to get rid of boring classes and ineffective teachers who only “force you to be obedient,” according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

He called it a chance to give young people fewer “idiots” in the learning process and adults more personalized educational opportunities. KSE University is already testing new approaches where knowledge is structured for integration into ChatGPT.

ChatGPT can replace teachers, and it is already working at KSE

Tymofiy Mylovanov said that artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT, can effectively replace teachers in higher education. At the same time, he said, many Western universities are opposed to this idea.

“In traditional Western universities, such as Harvard or the University of Pittsburgh, where teachers have a significant influence, innovations are often blocked due to the conservatism of the academic environment,” Milovanov said.

By contrast, at KSE, Milovanov said, openness to new approaches allows for much faster change.

As an example, he cited the launch of a new course in sociology, which was created together with the rector of the school, Tymofiy Brick. They structured the course material in such a way that it could be effectively delivered through the ChatGPT interface. The best students joined the integration of knowledge into the chatbot, which made the course more dynamic and personalized.

Milovanov also added that he is testing the course himself to evaluate the effectiveness of AI-based learning.

AI is not the problem – toxic adults are the problem

Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of the Kyiv School of Economics and former Minister of Economy of Ukraine, in an exclusive commentary for [Kommersant] shared his vision of education transformation. He speaks directly about the abuse of power in the academic environment, rethinking the role of the teacher, and the potential of artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT, in the educational process.

Milovanov harshly criticizes authoritarian approaches to education, in which the teacher turns into a punitive tool rather than a partner in learning:

“If a teacher reduces education to ‘being obedient’, it is no longer education, but training. Yes, AI is better than training: it does not shout, humiliate, or break. We don’t need punitive methods. We need those who inspire respect and trust, not fear.”

According to the KSE president, ChatGPT and similar tools are already winning over teachers who have lost touch with modernity:

“We take risks. But we risk even more when the interaction with the teacher is formal, impersonal, and empty. ChatGPT has no face, but it’s definitely better than a teacher who doesn’t care, who has forgotten the last time he or she learned something new or created something practical. Such teachers have long been replaced by their own PowerPoints.”

Milovanov clarifies that it is not about rejecting teachers as a phenomenon, but about rejecting a toxic culture:

“I do not consider teachers superfluous. I consider unnecessary toxic adults who humiliate young people, kill their curiosity, and strengthen the system of fear. I am happy to fight this system so that our children are not crippled.”

According to Milovanov, the role of AI in education depends not so much on the technology as on the approach of people:

“AI is a tool. If we give students the freedom to create, reflect, and criticize, they are active. If we force them to ‘consume content’, it is our failure, not the technology’s problem.”

How to recognize quality education

Milovanov is confident that students are good at distinguishing between meaningful and empty education. One of the biggest challenges, according to the expert, is the issue that goes beyond technology:

“Fundamental things can be complicated, but if they are alive, the student will feel it. And if they are empty, you can’t force them, you can’t justify them, there will be no result.”

In conclusion, Milovanov emphasizes that he does not hold on to a position or status if it is meaningless:

“If AI replaces me as a leader in 10 years, it means that I was unnecessary. My task is not to hold on, but to transform the system. If AI helps me with this, I will find something to do. Because I am constantly learning.”

Thus, according to Milovanov, artificial intelligence does not replace humanity – it only emphasizes its absence where education has long been a formality. The KSE initiative is not just a technological experiment, but a challenge to the traditional system, which often disciplines rather than educates. The success of the new approaches will show that the future of education lies in co-creation, not in authoritarianism in the classroom.
