Icy roads has halted freight transport at the border with Moldova: what is known
6 February 13:13
Due to difficult weather conditions and icy roads on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, the processing of trucks at two checkpoints has been temporarily suspended. This was reported by the press center of the State Border Service of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The restrictions are in effect at the Palanka-Mayaki-Udobne and Tudora checkpoints.
Why cargo processing has been suspended
The State Border Guard Service explains that the decision was made due to deteriorating weather conditions, in particular the formation of ice crust on the approaches and directly on the territory of the checkpoints. Such conditions create an increased risk for the movement of large-sized transport and the operation of border and customs infrastructure.
Passenger transport and passenger cars are currently being processed as usual, while truck traffic is restricted until the weather situation stabilizes.
Advice for drivers and carriers
Border guards urge truck drivers and logistics companies to take temporary restrictions into account when planning routes and delivery schedules.
Carriers are advised to:
- choose alternative crossing points where possible;
- monitor operational reports from the State Border Guard Service;
- take into account delays in delivery when fulfilling contractual obligations.
When will processing resume?
The State Border Service notes that the processing of freight vehicles will resume as soon as weather conditions improve and the danger to traffic is eliminated.
They promise to provide additional information about the lifting of restrictions.
