On the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine, a petition to award (posthumously) the title of Hero of Ukraine to politician and public figure Andriy Parubiy has received more than 25,000 signatures. This is enough for the president to consider the petition, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
As of 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, petition No. 22/252428-ep had 25,254 signatures out of the required 25,000.
According to the rules, the president has 83 days to consider and provide an official response.

Who submitted the petition
The author of the petition was Dmytro Lavryniuk, who registered it on September 2, 2025. In his appeal to the president, he emphasized Parubiy’s life’s contribution:
“We appeal to the President of Ukraine with a request to posthumously award the title of Hero of Ukraine to Andriy Volodymyrovych Parubiy, a Ukrainian politician and public figure, MP of several convocations, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2016-2019, active participant in the Revolution of Dignity, founder and coordinator of the Maidan Self-Defense.”
Andriy Parubiy’s contribution
The text of the petition states:
“Andriy Parubiy has devoted his entire life to serving the Ukrainian state, protecting its sovereignty, independence and democratic values. He has made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian parliamentarism and played a key role in ensuring the security of Maidan during the events of 2013-2014.”
The author of the petition also emphasized that Parubiy’s consistent pro-Ukrainian position, his commitment to the state interests and his contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s national security and European integration deserve the highest state award:
“Please support this petition to honor the memory of Andriy Parubiy as a true patriot, statesman and fighter for Ukraine’s independence.”
Other petitions
Three other similar petitions have been registered on the website of the President’s Office, but they have not yet received enough votes to be considered by the President.
The petition about Parubiy was the first of the latest initiatives to receive the required 25,000 signatures, and now its consideration depends on the decision of the President of Ukraine.
What is known about the murder of Parubiy
Former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy was killed in Lviv on the afternoon of August 30. An unknown man fired about eight shots at the politician with a short-barreled firearm. Parubiy died on the spot from his wounds.
The attacker fled, and a special operation “Siren” was launched in the city. On the night of September 1, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the suspect had been detained.
According to the head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhivskyi, Scelnikov had been preparing for the crime in advance, tracking the politician’s movements and waiting for the right moment to attack. After the murder, he tried to hide in the Khmelnytsky region.
Vyhivskyi also stated that the crime was not accidental and that there was a “Russian trace” in the case.
