During a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian army needs to be strengthened, it needs Patriot air defence systems, artillery shells, long-range weapons, aircraft, and all decisions on such supplies should be made quickly.
This was reported by Kommersant ukrainskyi
citing the president’s statement.
“We are talking about it directly – for defence, we need seven more Patriots or similar air defence systems, and this is the minimum number. They can save many lives and make a real difference. You have such systems. Please,” Zelensky said.
He also reminded that there has been talk of a million artillery shells for Ukraine for a long time. According to him, they must finally be delivered to the frontline.
In addition, the Ukrainian army needs more long-range weapons, including missiles and artillery. The more such weapons are in the hands of Ukrainian soldiers, the closer peace will be. The President reminded that Ukraine needs aviation. At the moment, there is a fighter coalition, so Ukraine needs a sufficient number of aircraft to really overcome the Russian air force.
“And the fifth is speed. This year we are eager to make a decision. I ask you to consider our request for your determination – every element of it – as soon as possible,” the President concluded.
As a reminder, today, 19 April, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the participants of the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting agreed to provide Ukraine with more air defence equipment.
On 18 April, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on NATO partners to find six more Patriot systems for Ukraine.
