Pentagon hits out at another $2bn in aid to Ukraine over accounting error

The US Department of Defence has revealed additional errors in its calculations of ammunition, missiles and other equipment sent to Ukraine. This will allow the Pentagon to provide our state with additional aid worth 2bn dollars. This is reported by Reuters, informs "Komersant Ukrainian"

In its accounting, the Pentagon used replacement cost to assess military aid, rather than the cost of weapons at the time of their acquisition and depreciation, officials said.

It is noted that this is not the first time that the U.S. Department of Defence has a problem with accounting. Last year, the department similarly misstated the amount of ammunition, missiles and other military equipment provided, resulting in a surplus of more than $6 billion.

They were used to supply Kiev with even more weapons.

As explained in the government, such lucky mistakes for Ukraine arise because the law passed by Congress on providing assistance to our state for $61 billion does not contain clear instructions on how to assess the transferred weapons.

It is also not always clear how to count the equipment that Kiev receives under the US President’s programme, which allows it to use stocks from warehouses.

The Pentagon wants to ask lawmakers to settle this issue in the documents.
