There will be no negotiations on NATO membership as long as Ukraine is corrupt. Zelenskyy to face new conditions – media

At the NATO summit in Washington, Ukraine will be given additional conditions for starting membership negotiations. In particular, they will point to high corruption, reports "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to The Telegraph.
“Membership talks will not be able to move forward until the former Soviet state puts things in order, which will be a serious blow to Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” a senior US State Department official said.
“The fight against corruption is a priority for many at this table,” the source said. And only after the “fight against corruption” clause is fulfilled, membership negotiations will be able to continue, the publication says. The position will be set out in writing in a NATO communique to be signed at the alliance’s annual summit on 9 July.
However, it is not only mistakes that will be pointed out to Ukraine. The alliance also sees the reforms that Ukraine is implementing.
“We have to take a step back and applaud everything that Ukraine has done in the name of reform over the past two-plus years,” the Telegraph official said.
The media outlet adds that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is pushing for rapid accession to NATO after the war to protect against future invasion. But corruption has become a stumbling block in recent talks between NATO member states on whether to offer Ukraine a specific timetable for joining the Western military alliance.
