Negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in Abu Dhabi have concluded, marking the first two-day trilateral format in a long time.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Who participated in the negotiations
According to him, the parties managed to discuss a wide range of issues, and the talks themselves were constructive.
On the Ukrainian side, the meetings were attended by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov, Commander of the Joint Forces Andriy Gnatov, People’s Deputy David Arakhamia, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kyslytsya, and Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Vadym Skibitsky.
The American side was represented by Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Dan Driscoll, Alex Grinkevich, and Josh Greenbaum. Representatives of military intelligence and the army participated in the negotiations on behalf of Russia.
What the parties discussed
According to Zelensky, the key topic of discussion was the possible parameters for ending the war. Special attention was paid to the issue of American monitoring and control of the process of ending the war and ensuring real security.
The American side also raised the issue of formats for consolidating agreements on ending the war and the security conditions necessary for this.
Possible continuation of negotiations
Following the meetings, the parties agreed to report on the results of the negotiations to their capitals and to agree on further steps with their leaders. The military identified a list of issues for a possible next meeting.
“If there is a willingness to move forward—and Ukraine is ready—there will be further meetings, potentially next week. I look forward to receiving a personal report from the delegation upon its return,” Zelensky said.
Negotiations in Abu Dhabi
On January 23, negotiations began in Abu Dhabi with the participation of delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, led on the Ukrainian side by NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the key topic of the negotiations is the territorial issue, in particular the situation around Donbas. The day before, the Kremlin said that it demands the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the region as one of the conditions.
Before the start of the meeting, Zelensky held consultations with the negotiating team, and after the first day of talks, Umerov revealed some details of the discussions in Abu Dhabi.
