Overpayment for electricity: official to stand trial in Kyiv

The Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office has sent an indictment to court against a district administration official who overpaid 1.8 million hryvnias from the budget for electricity for educational institutions in the district. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Prosecutors from the Desnianskyi District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv have sent an indictment to court against an authorized person for public procurement in the Desnianskyi District State Administration’s education department,” the statement said.

She is accused of abusing her official position during the purchase of electricity for educational institutions in the district.

“It has been established that the accused, acting in the interests of the electricity supplier, in violation of the requirements of current legislation, signed additional agreements for the supply of electricity at prices significantly higher than market prices without justification between January and September 2023.”

A forensic economic examination established that the amount of damage caused by the purchase of electricity at inflated prices amounted to more than UAH 1.8 million, which constitutes serious consequences.

The official’s actions were classified as abuse of office, which caused serious consequences to public interests protected by law.

The pre-trial investigation has now been completed. The indictment has been sent to the court for consideration on its merits, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The article provides for imprisonment for a term of 3 to 6 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years, with a fine of five hundred to one thousand non-taxable minimum incomes.
