Mass protests recently broke out in the Cuban municipality of Morón (Ciego de Ávila province). During the unrest, the local headquarters of the Communist Party of Cuba was set on fire.
This was reported by Ciber Cuba, according to [Komersant].
Residents took to the streets due to prolonged power outages, food shortages, and deteriorating living conditions amid the economic crisis.
Security forces attempted to disperse the demonstrators, deploying special units and police dogs.
Local journalist José Raúl Gallego reported that during the clashes, one of the protesters sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh. According to him, police officers fired on the demonstrators.
The demonstration in Morón was one of a series of mass protests that have swept across various regions of Cuba. The economic situation on the island has become critical: residents are facing fuel and food shortages as well as widespread power outages.
As noted by Ciber Cuba, Cubans are waiting to see how the U.S. will react to the protests. So far, Washington has not officially commented on the situation.
Earlier, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel officially confirmed for the first time that his government is in talks with the Donald Trump administration following three months of a de facto oil blockade of the island.
