After the failure of its offensive on Kharkiv, Russia has changed the main goal of its current campaign. It now seeks to occupy Pokrovsk. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with the French media, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“The whole east is complicated. The main goal for today, after they failed to take Kharkiv, and we understand that they will not succeed anymore. The main goal has changed. Their main direction is not the east in general, although Sloviansk is not an exception, but Pokrovsk, I would say, is their priority today,” the president said.
He added that Russian troops are concentrating on the Pokrovsk direction. It is not only about plans to capture Pokrovsk, but also Kostiantynivka, Toretsk and Sloviansk.
“Of course, there is Kostyantynivka, and they are aiming at Toretsk, and there are plans for Sloviansk, but these are all plans. They are concentrating the largest number of personnel and the largest number of weapons, and CABs, everything they have, on the Pokrovske direction,” he said.
In order to deter the enemy, aid packages, weapons and air defence systems are needed to shoot down the aircraft from which the strikes are carried out, the president stressed.
In addition, Zelenskyy noted that the Russians are also advancing because Ukraine has restrictions on strikes with Western weapons deep into Russia, on installations and aircraft that fire on the Ukrainian border. And also because Russian attack aircraft are afraid to turn back under the threat of being killed by their own.
It should be noted that the Pokrovske direction has been the most difficult for months. It is there that the defenders repel the largest number of enemy attacks every day. The enemy is gradually capturing settlements.
