The White House has condemned the Russian attacks on the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital, but has not changed the regime for the use of US weapons by Ukrainians. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the Voice of America.

US administration spokesman John Kirby said that it was normal for Putin to attack civilian targets despite the presence of civilians.

When asked about the possible connection between this attack and the upcoming NATO summit, Kirby said that it was hardly a special signal. However, he stressed that the summit will demonstrate strong support for Ukraine and send a clear message to Putin that he cannot “wait out NATO or the US”.

Kirby also noted that Russia is stepping up its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the cold season. Therefore, the NATO summit is expected to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s air defence.

Regarding the possibility of Ukraine using US weapons to strike Russian airfields, Kirby said that US policy has not changed – Ukraine can use the provided weapons to strike targets close to the border.

NATO also came up with new wording on Ukraine’s membership.
