Late varieties are already in stores: potato prices are falling in Ukraine

18 September 2025 09:21

Potatoes on the Ukrainian market fell by 10% over the week due to the intensification of the harvesting campaign in key agricultural regions. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to EastFruit.

EastFruit experts attribute this decline to an increase in the supply of late potato varieties to the domestic market.

According to the latest monitoring data, the price of potatoes from producers today is UAH 9-16 per kilogram ($0.22-0.39/kg), which is 10% lower than at the end of last week.

At the same time, farmers note that buyers are increasingly demanding the quality of the product. Unlike the previous season, when even small potatoes were easy to sell, this year such product is practically not in demand. Large wholesale batches of medium-sized potatoes are selling best.

Compared to last year, potatoes are 18% cheaper. Industry participants predict that low prices will continue to be maintained due to large volumes of product on the market and do not expect price increases in the near term.

Retail prices are also declining

Monitoring of retail prices also confirms the downward trend in potato prices. According to the Ministry of Finance, the current average retail price for potatoes is UAH 16.17 per kilogram. Over the past month, consumer prices have decreased by UAH 2.73.

The price dynamics shows a sharp decline since the end of August: while on August 20-26, the price of potatoes in the retail network was at 18.90 UAH/kg, by mid-September the price dropped to 15.50-16.17 UAH/kg. The lowest level was recorded on September 12-15 at UAH 15.53 per kilogram.

In the Auchan chain, potatoes are sold for 15.80 UAH/kg, which is below the market average and indicates active price competition among retailers.
